I got into accounting because I wanted to be the person who could help people with their money.

My family struggled, so when it came time to choose a path, they wanted me to pick something stable.

They told me not to chase my dreams of writing and fashion design. (Hold that thought. It comes back around.)

I turned down a Big 4 offer, thinking a Top 10 firm would be less of a grind. It wasn’t. The 80-hour weeks caught up with me fast. I once worked a full day after spending the entire night in the ER. I was in my 20s, and my health was already dwindling.

I hit the milestones. The titles. The seat at the table. I had “arrived.”

And I was still burned out. Still carrying the feeling that no amount of perfect performance would ever be enough to please everyone.

That’s when something shifted.

I decided to build my own firm — and to pursue a doctorate in marketing and consumer psychology. I wanted to understand something bigger: how do we change the narrative in accounting, so the next generation sees this field as a place to build a career they love, not just a path to burnout?

Along the way, I realized I had built something unique. A model for reaching niche clients, building a personal brand, pricing your work for what it’s truly worth, and — maybe most importantly — helping
professionals quiet the imposter syndrome and finally believe in themselves.

And here’s the part I didn’t see coming.

The writing and design dreams my parents told me to give up? They found their way back in through the back door.

I’ve always been the warm, chatty one — the person who’d rather build a relationship than hide behind a spreadsheet. Which, if you know the stereotype about accountants, makes me a bit of a contradiction. No one thinks I’m a CPA when we meet. So I leaned all the way in and named it: The Sociable CFO.

Because being friendly, visible, and human isn’t the opposite of being good with money. It’s my whole edge. And it can be yours too.
